I was a gaming geek back in the day. This I became a chef and got married, only to geek out on cooking. Now a few years after the divorce I have reentered the fold. I just listened The Tome Show interview with SRM and I am now wondering. When he talked about game design and how he used PnP as a mechanics teaching tool to his class, where do/can I learn that part of game design? Or as it is now referred to as “The crunch”? It this a purely mathematics study? There are tons of game design articles, books and magazines on computer game design, but what resources can I get my hands on to develop mechanics for analog RP games?
Dam typos! Then I became a chef… among others…dam this glass of red wine and a sensitive enter button!
Would it be possible to get screenshots of the products in your library (when appropriate of course)? For the visual-minded, I think it could do wonders being able to see the layout of a particular campaign tool, or the screen of virtual dice roller for example, within your list of links. I realize that you may need permission from the folks whose products your supporting, but it would save time having to filter through so many url’s, and could help your partners generate business.
Fantastic.. Thanks!
I think it would be nice if the tools database had another datapoint called Gaming System. The default selection would be “Any”, but other options would be D&D 3.5, D&D 4e, Warhammer, Pathfinder, etc. I realize there’s a problem with having a list to choose from… some systems might be left out, but we wouldn’t want it to be fill-in-the-blank because then a lack of consistency would undermine the inclusion of the information.
However you do it, I feel it’s important. Sometimes I want to browse general RP resources, but other times I am looking for a resource specific to a system, like a Serenity character generator, or a D&D 4e initiative tracker.
Hey, we have updated our database to display this information more usefully and allow for user to select gama systems as well as operating systems for the tools we have recorded. It is even possible to add a gaming system that is not yet present in our database! Thanks for your suggestion!
