It’s a busy week over within the SRM radiance. The Inner Sea World Guide is out the doorish. Ultimate Magic wrap-up is in full swing. Ultimate Combat design is wrapping up, and at Paizo we are always busy hatching the new plan or playing a new(ish) game. We just finished our Gamma World game (I only got to play in one session because of my schedule…I don’t know what I think about the randomness and the card mechanic, but probably more on that later) and we are wrapping up a Deathwatch game in its place (Emperor save me!). Hyrum Savage is the man with the GMing plan, and I for one really appreciate it.
My cube mate, Mark Moreland, after finding out how fast I can paint miniatures, wants me to paint all the Pathfinder iconic miniatures by Reaper. I think his exact words were “dance, monkey, dance!” Throwing away Mark’s rather draconian timetables, I think it would be a fun. I’m close to being done painting the three minis making up the scene on the front cover of the Pathfinder Core Rulebook. And now I’m going to tell you that I’ve been too busy to write a proper column. You are not going to feel sorry for me in the slightest.

So far I have completed Seoni and the red dragon in my attempts to recreate the cover of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook with minis. I’ll provide a much better photo when it is all done.
I guess I deserve that, I live in an RPG wonderland. Especially one if you like the world’s oldest RPG or some such nonsense.
I am working on a number of blogs, one on the fight between fluff and crunch, and a number on different adventures—B6 The Veiled Society, Curse of the Crimson Throne: Edge of Anarchy and one other one about a classic AD&D adventures from strange Origins past. Two on the various apps I’m using or attempting to use while running games, and another on why apps seem worse than paper sometimes. Oh, and then there’s Hexploration.
But I’m going to slow you down with some news.
I’m getting back into that convention thang. After years of running trying to run things at all the major cons, they became no fun. Now that other people get to do all that stuff, they’re awesome again. I love me some conventions!
This year gets a quick start. I’ll be one of many fantastic guest at Dungeons & Dragons Experience. I’m hanging with David Christ (the Baldman himself), Rob Schwalb, Matt James, Chris Sims, or fellow D&D champion Chad Brown (just to name a few). I’m sure that hijinks will follow. Hell, DM to the stars Chris Perkins will be there. He runs a mean game, and I have never gotten to play in it. I should remedy that.
If you’re on the fence about coming to D&D Experience, get the hell off it. Fort Wayne’s a weird town for someone of my dual-coast sensibilities, but the convention center is awesome. The hotel staff is friendly, there is (or at least was) a great Irish pub around the corner (I’ll be running my games there, thank you!), and Fort Wayne hates money. Oh and there is a bunch of gaming. Technically I think it is called a fuck ton of gaming. Hey and come chat gaming and nerdery, especially if you have a beer in hand (beer not necessary; offer not valid in Rhode Island, Belarus, or Madagascar). I’ll even talk about Pathfinder (shhhhh). DDXP is at the end of the month, January 27 -30 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
PaizoCon is coming. I’ll be there for sure. All we will be doing is talking Pathfinder, and painting minis, and playing games. If you miss that, I can’t help you.
After that I’ll be working the gaming panels at Norwescon 34. I’m in the process of requesting panels right now, but there is lots of NeoGrog stuff to choose from. I’ll let you know when I find out the exact panels. Norwescon is a science fiction con that always has its fair share of gaming. Norwescon is April 21-24 in SeaTac, Washington.
What else is on the list for the year? Gen Con. PAX Prime. Enfilade! What else am I missing?
You know, if you get really bored at the DDXP, you can always pop over the border into Illinois for Winter War, which is running the same weekend . . .
Oh, that show looks awesome! I don’t know if I will be able to make a four-hour each way trip during DDXP weekend, but I may have to check out Winter War sometime.
I would love to see you run a game. It would be awesome to see the Uber DM in action, maybe get some pointers. I didn’t realize how mentally draining keeping everyone on track was till I did it.
Oh, it never stops being mentally draining. I’m typically really tired after a game. RPGA GMs (DMs…who knows anymore?) are real rock stars. Some of those folks chug on for days.
But yeah, we will have to get together and play soon. I think I owe you guys that.
GameStorm in Portland/Vancouver is a great con with a great diversity of games. We will have some Ashes of Athas there… (he said, plugging the campaign)
I’ve been to GameStorm quite a few times, one year as a guest (I think that was GameStorm 10. It’s a good show. I love to hang on the Oregon Shore during early spring and watch the ocean roar; maybe I can combine a trip…
I’ll be there! Hopefully we’ll get a chance to meet in person.
Oh, I am sure we will. We should try to get a game together as well.
