About NeoGrognard

Stephen Radney-MacFarland, Minister of Cant

Stephen Radney-MacFarlandA fine example of a neogrognard, Stephen roamed the gameless wilds for much of his life, until he stumbled upon a D&D game at a birthday party. Since then his life has been a jumble of dice, miniatures, epic quests, and explaining his strange hobby.

A fan of D&D, Warhammer 40K, Blood Bowl, BattleLore, Wings of War, Dominion, and a bunch of other games that you don’t need a computer to play. He still paints miniatures, he still crafts adventures, he runs a D&D game almost every week, and is fascinated in the evolution of  games.

Stephen worked on Dungeons & Dragons at Wizards of the Coast, designing and running organized play programs for D&D during 3e and was one of the developers for 4e.  He has also been known to teach a college course on RPG design every so often.

Now Stephen is a gun for hire, and the chief scribe for NeoGrognard.com.

NeoGrognard’s charred piece of flesh called a heart, Stephen is the main voice of the NeoGrognard, or at least the conduit of that voice. Running D&D for more years than he would care to count, Stephen does not believe the best years of Roleplaying games are behind us. His hex carries the symbol of the double dragons facing; the banner of the world and demiplane spanning Vold Empire in his 4e games. Why? Because he’s a big nerd.

Didier Monin, Minister of Ideas

Didier MoninDidier worked for Wizards of the Coast for nearly 14 years as Project Manager for Organized Play and Producer for the D&D Insider applications suite.  Between having an ancestor that was a Colonel in Napoleon’s army, being a Role Player since 1981, and a tech and computer gaming geek, NeoGrognard.com seemed like a natural fit for a next project.

A few years back, Didier has been the developer behind the NWTactics mod for Bioware’s NeverWinter Nights, and after this experience also played in various MMO games, becoming a Cynabal pilot in Eve Online, or playing a Druid ex-Tauren-now-Worgen on Drak’Tharon realm. He can now compete again in Magic tournaments while looking for contracting or freelancer opportunities in the game world. Didier is very excited to be part of NeoGrognard.com, where old fashioned pen and paper history coexists with modern, state of the art technology to enhance the pen and paper RPG experience.

A dreamer and a wanderer, Didier left France to be on the front line of the Wizards of the Coast revolution of the 90s’ and the 00s’. A master of data in Organized Play and for Dungeons & Dragons Insider, his desire to seek out and create new tools never abates. He is the logos of the NeoGrognard; the word that brought it life. He pushes all of us to dream bigger. Didier’s hex carries the symbol of the sun—the logos of the NeoGrognard.

Jared Buletza, Minister of Mobility

Jared BuletzaJared has been hooked on D&D since the TSR Gold Box computer games, Champions of Krynn being the first he played.  He now embraces “pencil & paper” D&D though “dice & mobile device” D&D is slowly becoming more accurate.

When not wielding two blades in the world of Faerun, Jared is a software developer currently working on business based iPhone/iPad applications.  He is also an avid Seattle Sounders FC supporter.

Jared is our ranger, stalking the wilderness, staking out new paths. He’s like Drizzt, but he doesn’t need a magic panther to kick ass. He just needs an iPad and the means to make it sing. Jared’s the guy who pushes us forward toward the potential of RPGs with a rare mix of a calm head and infectious excitement. His hex is the dragonship. In the dreams of the NeoGrognard, he is our Viking.

Jeff Sorensen, Minister of Logistics

Jeff SorensenJeff is an avid Dungeons & Dragons junkie, having played every version of the game back to 1st edition “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.”  He currently DMs two weekly groups, happily addicted to 4e.   He proudly embraces the titles of “The Obsessive Compulsive Dungeon Master” and NeoGrognard.

Also an avid board game player, Jeff has a particular interest in traditional German board games like Settlers of Catan and Agricola; as well as old-school Avalon Hill games like King Maker and Advanced Civilization (not the Sid Meier’s version). You can check out his board game collection on BoardGameGeek.com.

When not playing board games or D&D, Jeff makes a living working for Iowa State University managing a top-notch team of web developers.

Like any product, ideas need to be packaged and delivered. Living in the middle of nowhere (Iowa!), Jeff coordinates the flow of NeoGrognard ideas. A voice of reason, a mechanic with scripts and bits, and a true NeoGrognard DM, Jeff lives the revolution every time he warms up the projector for his game table’s digital mapper. Jeff’s hex holds the dolmen framing the constellation, and apt symbol for his worthy contributions to the revolution.
